Land Use in a Free Market
The economcs of land use are not flat. We find that prices in all directions follow the previous illustration into the three dimensional world, producing a bid rent "surface". Actual urbanization radiates out from a central place. At some time there is demand for a transportation beltway. Around that beltway are formed so-called "edge cities". The result over time is the urban form we see today.
